July 2009 - Rookery Hall Hotel, Nantwich, Cheshire
A property I was curious to see as I know that it recently underwent a
major facelift and added on a spa facility. I certainly wasn't disappointed!
My friend and I managed to arrive in plenty of time before our schedule of
tours etc bagan, and spent some time in the spa - there is a lovely
informal brasserie in the spa reception, which you can sit down and
relax in whilst watching everybody swimming! I spent a couple of hours
leisurely swimming and making use of the sauna, steam room, and
fabulous spa bath experiences, while my friend took time out for a pedicure.
We left feeling very uplifted and revitalised!
The bedrooms at Rookery Hall are fabulous - we had one in the new wing,
and there are some in the main house too, which I thought incorporated
a lovely balance of "old and new" really well.
The conference facilities at Rookery were fabulous - the meeting rooms
are all in a new self-sufficient wing, which has been beautifully decorated
and designed, and even though it is now two years old, still looks great.
The hotels has acres of grounds too, so if you are consideirng adding on
some outdoor team-building, then the possibilities are endless ...
Location-wise, Rookery Hall is great - just off the M6, and easy to get to by train,
as we did (15 minutes from Crewe station, which is a major stop on the cross
country and west coast lines.
Overall, a great property, which I would highly recommend.

March 2009 - "Oxfordshire Weekend" incorporating Eynsham Hall, RBS WIlliams F1 Conference Centre,
and Blenheim Palace, with activities provided by Off-Limits Events.
Home Page ImageAfter arriving early at Eynsham Hall, and being welcomed by plates of bacon rolls and egg muffins (perfect start!), we got stright onto our schedule of activities. The morning was spent drumming - around 50 of us given African style drums and tauight how they can be used as a team-building activity - really unusual and great fun (no musical skills required either - phew!). After a nice light buffet lunch, we headed outside to partake in "It's a Knockout" - using the original gear - complete with grannies, giants, water, and bubbles - after an exhausting, exhilarating, and fabulous afternoon of activities, we headed off to get dry (complete with sore ribs from all the laughing!).
Our evening was spent at The RBS Williams F1 Conference Centre, which is a superb venue for meetings and events. We had a tour of the conference facilities (first class), then a relaxed tour of the museum (every F1 fan's dream!), and after some drinks and canapes, we tucked into a delicious dinner and each got a go in a simulator - quite a feat if you're anything over 5 foot tall - and not as easy as it looked either so we learned!!!
After a show-round of Eynsham Hall on Sunday morning, we were taken by coach to Blenheim Palace where we had a couple of hours free-time before lunch in one fo the function suites. Superb rooms in a stunning setting, and the lunch we had was delicious.
All in all, a really good fun weekend, with some great venues - Eynsham Hall is a stunning country house with some great meeting space; Williams F1 Centre is a truly unique venue offering first-class facilities; Blenheim Palace was stunning - for a special event, I can't think of anywhere nicer! As far as the activities go, Off-Limits Events were great - a friendly bunchy of people who seemed genuinely passionate about their work, and made for a superb range of activities.

January 2009 - Thorpe Park Hotel and Spa, Leeds.
Executive roomWe visited this property on a "Detox and Wellness Weekend"!!! Just what the doctor ordered after an over-indulgent Christmas!
On the Friday night we were left to our own devices, and after making use of the swimming pool, and relaxing in our very comortable and beautifully decorated and furnished bedroom, we decided to eat out of the hotel.
It is located on a small business park, literally one minute from the M1 motorway. We made our way into the leafy Headingley area of Leeds, where there are plenty of trendy restaurants and bars to choose from.
The Saturday was spent "Nordic Walking", partaking in all sorts of health and wellness
activities, and then rounded off with a wonderful back, neck, and shoulder massage - heaven!
After a healthy option dinner, with one or two glasses of wine, our whole group retired and slept like babies!!!
Breakfast on Sunday was a busy affair, but the staff coped admirably. The restaurant was well organised, calm, and generally very refreshing (I have a phobia about hotel breakfasts!). There was a superb choice of food, ranging from fresh fruits and cereals, to yoghurts, pastries, and cold meats, plus the all important "Full English".
All in all, a supeb hotel, which I feel confident recommending to clients. Great service, lovely bedrooms, and supber meeting facilities - a definite thumbs up from me!
Shire Hotels really deserve the acclaim they often receive.

January 2009 - The Olde Barn Hotel, Marston, near Grantham and JM Kartsport, Brandon, near Grantham.
Accommodation GranthamWe arrived at The Olde Barn late morning, and after introductions were treated to a nice buffet lunch.  We were then taken the short journey to JM Kartsport at Brandon.
The site is impressive, and  is where the likes of Lewis Hamilton once competed. We were impressed by how efficient and organised the guys there were, and once kitted out, briefed, and instructed, we were let loose in our own karts! We did some warm-up laps, and then a timed session, the whole event lasting around an hour or so.
Different packages are available according to your time, budget etc ...
We were surprised at just how fast the little machines went - not for the faint-hearted!
We then returned to the hotel for a well-deserved drink, and after a change got together for dinner. This was a nice, relaxed event, with a lovely choice of menu, and really good quality food and friendly and attentive service.
Our stay was  really comfortable, and the bedroom we had was superb - a lot of thought has been put into the refurbishment of the rooms here, and they exceeded what we had anticipated a three-star property to be.
All in all, a great time was had by all - the karting was superb, and the hotel excellent - a real gem, with good transport links, and great rates on offer. A big thumbs up!
